Psychotherapist in New York City and the Hudson Valley
My patients come to therapy to confront personal suffering and explore big questions about love, work, and what makes a satisfying and useful life. I work with them to help further develop self-awareness, a sense of agency, self-esteem, and self-regulation (the ability to recognize, tolerate, and tend to one’s feelings). I believe in everyone’s capacity to heal and lead a vital, creative, and healthy life.
I integrate psychodynamic depth work, which explores identity formation and the origins of behavior patterns, with behavioral therapies such as CBT and DBT, which help identify and shift unhelpful patterns, to help people better understand themselves and create meaningful change.
My specialties include:
Eating Disorders
Couples Therapy
Assisted Ketamine Therapy
Exploration of identity and embodiment with LGBTQ Individuals
Working with Artists
Male Depression
Narcissistic Personality Disorder & Borderline Personality Disorder
By cultivating curiosity, we can become more aware of the parts of ourselves we’ve disowned and begin to recognize and accept how essential they are to our goodness.
Together, we work to gently and lovingly integrate these disavowed parts back into the wholeness of our being. I believe that self-awareness and honesty with oneself are central to healing and creating everlasting change.
Therapeutic Focus
Eating Disorders
A foundational part of my training centered around complex issues surrounding body image, weight and dieting. Eating disorders often emerge as symptoms of deeper psychological pain, relational wounds, or attempts to cope with overwhelming emotions and internal conflict. I help patients better understand the underlying roots of their struggles, shift harmful patterns and develop a more compassionate and sustainable relationship with food and their bodies.
Couples
Couples often come to therapy after years of being stuck in adversarial patterns, blame, disconnection, and avoidance. I help partners truly hear one another and feel heard themselves. Together, we work to build empathy around the origins of each partner’s behaviors and reactions and co-create a path towards sustainable change.
Male Depression
Traditional masculinity has taught men to disconnect from their childhood wounds, emotions and behaviors that are seen as weak or vulnerable. This has left many men disconnected to themselves and without healthy interpersonal skills to relate well with both women and other men. I work to help men get out of their heads and into their hearts so that they can feel seen and connect authentically with others.
Guidance in the Arts
My background in the Arts has given me a unique understanding of the challenges that artists face, that means working through creative blocks, navigating group or collective dynamics, managing stressful projects, or dealing with strong personalities. I help artists re-center, refocus, and deepen their practice, build and sustain collectives, and explore their work from new perspectives.
Ketamine Assisted Therapy
Ketamine therapy is most beneficial under the supervision of a therapist. At my office in Columbus Circle, patients are offered sublingual ketamine in a supportive, guided setting. I sit with patients throughout the entire session, helping them track and communicate what is arising in the moment. Afterward, I support the integration process by helping patients reflect on and make meaning of the thoughts and feelings that emerged, either on an ongoing or as-needed basis.
Bio
I completed my graduate training at Columbia University with a Master’s degree in clinical social work and am currently a fellow at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy’s Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cooper Union, where I taught drawing and painting from 2013 to 2020. I co-founded the artist's collective The Bruce High Quality Foundation which ran BHQFU, a tuition-free experimental art school in lower Manhattan. My work has been exhibited at The Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, Centre Pompidou, and the Sundance Film Festival. My work in the arts has given me a lens for viewing the therapeutic process as collaborative, generative, and creative.
